Space Rock Love Child

about

When I now listen and analyze the song, it's a definite stamp on what is ultimately my best attempt at space rock record. As I found myself exploring this mix it became something deeper. I knew I had energy for at least one more recording, that makes 11 total recorded for this EP, still just 6 selected. I knew the direction i wanted to go with the track weeks ago. It's one of those tracks where you think about, the riff, the lyrics, the best you can bring at the end of everything else you've polished, for weeks, months, beforehand, knowing the type of guitar sound you want and not sure how to get there. Then in one crazy weekend you finally try whats in your mind. I'm cool with this one because for once a melody that was in my head bridged into reality and rocked exactly how I wanted it. When I changed lead to setting with phaser it worked well.

Another main motivation for the quick 164 BPM and intense effort at a catchy riff was the recent road trip to San Francisco, where I designed the song specifically to keep me awake on the road, as the album spun in 22 minute intervals.

Special props to friend Timothy Ezekiel who sent a humorous tweet saying that "Sodacon is a love child of space and rock". When I started tracking vocals was adding lyrics like normal, and suddenly I found myself singing "space rock love child" out of the blue. It worked and that ended up being the song title.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings.

lyrics

"Space Rock Love Child" by Jesse Crawford ©®™ 2011 Sodacon Music (Ascap Publishing) {title and lyrics "love child of rock, time, and space" inspired from a funny tweet by Timothy Ezekiel much props for that}

I've scanned the galaxy - scanned everywhere around
the quiet coming back so loud it's deafening-

it's a space rock love child -

It's been a long time waking up -
a lot of mileage to make up -
been on these flights so long - won't forget to stop -
look back how far we've gone -

(note on second verse - I'm leaving the lyrics here even though they are not in the song anymore, the section didn't fit unfortunately, however I really love the words and what they mean, so I'll leave them as part of the story)

neon binoculars on the moon - creatures
swim in glowing lagoon - constellations roaring overhead
like furnace burning up -

easy to worry - easy to fret -
lose your mind - over something
it won't effect - easy to worry - easy to fret -
lose your mind - lose your mind

Space Rock Love Child - it's the Sodacon
Space Rock Love Child
Space Rock Love Child - its the Sodacon
Space Rock Love Child

easy to worry - easy to fret -
lose your mind - over something
it won't effect -

Space Rock Love Child - it's the Sodacon
Space Rock Love Child
Space Rock Love Child - its the Sodacon
Space Rock Love Child

I've scanned the galaxy - * - * scanned everywhere around
the quiet coming back scanning over the top - * - *
